AUBURN — The 13th annual Community Band Extravaganza, sponsored by the
Auburn Community Band, will be held at the DeKalb Outdoor Theater on Sunday at
2:30 p.m.
Four community bands will combine their membership for a concert of
approximately one hour. Each of the bands has submitted three pieces of music
for the concert, with directors of each band conducting their selections.
Bands performing include:
• the Lake Area Community Band, which is celebrating its 22nd anniversary this
year. Its director is Martin Becker, who is also the director of the Grace
College Wind Ensemble;
• the Erie Band from Huntington, under the direction of Thane Campbell. This
band originally was formed by the Erie Lackawana Railroad in 1915;
• the New Horizon Band from Fort Wayne under the direction of John Morse; and
• the host Auburn Community Band, under the direction of Kim Randinelli. The
Auburn Community Band is now celebrating its 27th anniversary. Its highlights
include representing Indiana in 2003 at the Festival of states and in 2009
participating in the John Philip Sousa Festival, both in Washington, D.C.
Sunday’s performance is free to the public, with concert-goers encouraged to
bring lawn chairs or blankets, since seating is limited.
This will be the third of the Auburn Community Band’s 2010 “Sunday In The
Park” concerts.
