AUBURN
— The DeKalb Outdoor Theater board of directors recently gave Dick Shankle its
President’s Award in honor of his outstanding contributions to the DeKalb
Outdoor Theater from the inception of the project through its completion.
In a news release, the board said: “Dick was involved with the project when it
was an idea being talked about. He was instrumental in the formation of a
committee, which later led to the formation of the board of directors. Dick
Shankle worked tirelessly on construction of the outdoor theater with his
primary responsibility being fundraising chairman, from which he retired earlier
this year. He attends many outdoor theater events and can be found onstage
performing with the Auburn Community Band. What a great way to enjoy the fruits
of his labor. Dick Shankle has been an inspiration to all who have been
involved. His dreams have become a reality.”
