Big dreams really do come true.

You can see for yourself this weekend, when a dedication ceremony opens the new DeKalb County Outdoor Theater in Auburn.

The event will mark the end of a journey that took more than four years for the theater’s founders.

They worked persistently to convince donors to share their vision of an outdoor stage for summer concerts. They overcame roadblocks and forged ahead.

Now, the handsome theater stands ready for its first performances Saturday at 2 p.m. in a grassy setting on the east side of Cedar Creek in Auburn.

We encourage you to go, look and listen — Saturday and for the rest of the summer. You can reach the theater from its entrance drive on South Center Street.

Saturday’s lineup features the Auburn Community Band, performers from the Patricia Krus School of Dance, the popular local Gospel singing group Heaven Bound and the state champion Classic Connection show choir from DeKalb High School.

The theater group has assembled an outstanding lineup for the rest of the summer that includes nationally known Christian music artist Jeoffrey Benward, two of northeast Indiana’s favorite rock bands, Choice and Spike & The Bulldogs, and Grammy-nominated bluegrass musician Audie Blaylock of Garrett and his band, Redline.

You can catch a free concert at the stage every Friday night from June 5 through Aug. 14, often with acts that would command a hefty ticket price elsewhere.

The summer will be filled with other special events at the theater. We’ll keep you informed.

Right now, we’re pleased to tell you the theater is open. Congratulations to everyone who made it possible. We look forward to an entertaining summer.
